ISLAMABAD – Government of Pakistan will appoint a new Chief Of Army Staff (COAS) within a week or few days to replace existing COAS General Raheel Sharif who is to retire by the end of this month, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry Minister for Capital Administration has said.

In a news conference along with Pakistan Muslim League Leader Daniyal Aziz, Mr. Chaudary said

“The government has not yet decided but is likely to announce his name in week or ten days’ time.”

COAS Gen Raheel Sharif has announced he will retire on the due date and will not to seek an extension in his tenure.
In January, Pakistan Army rejected reports of extension in COAS’s tenure from 3 to 4 years. “Speculations about an extension in service of COAS are baseless,” DG ISPR Lieutenant-Gen Asim Bajwa said in a series of statements on Twitter.
