Women Persecution in the Modern Society

In the name of Allah, Most Merciful, blessings and greetings be upon His Messenger and his family and his companions. Islam considered the dignity and humanity of woman and confirmed her as a worthy human being to share humanity as equal to man. As the women constitute half of the society but it is a common issue of the modern society to maltreat and neglect the women rights.

Islamic teachings are universal and conveyed the answer to the needs of the diverse period, cultures and state of affairs. We Muslims have the Noble Qur’an that truly honors women. The woman is a human being and the member of the society, as a daughter, wife, and mother. But some Muslims deprive women rights by taking religious knowledge in a contradictory logic.

Due to this reason, scientists, preachers, thinkers, and educators; all show interest in this case and carry out their efforts to highlight such issues like women justice, value, and unfairness towards her so that she can get her rights.

Qur’an says: “O mankind! Be dutiful to your Lord, Who created you from a single person (Adam) and from him (Adam) He created his wife (Eve), and from them both He created many men and women and fear Allah through Whom you demand your mutual (rights), and (do not cut the relations of) the wombs (kinship). Surely, Allah is Ever an All-Watcher over you. “ (4:1)

Marriage is a relationship not only an emotional requisite. It is based on divine direction for husband and wife to share mutual rights and commitments. In Islam, wife is considered as the greatest treasure and a means of contentment.

In Quran,

Allah ordered the believers to “consort with women in kindness” (4:19)

A husband must treat her kindly at all times. He must protect her with respect and honor.

The Prophet (P.B.U.H) said that Allah will not ever let him enter Paradise who cares little who shares his wife’s privacy.

Allah said in the Quran,

“And of His signs are this: He created for you helpmeets from yourselves that ye might find rest in them, and He ordained between you love and mercy. Lo, herein indeed are portents for folk who reflect” (30:21).

According to the Prophet (P.B.U.H), “the best charity (sadaqa) is that spent on one’s wife”.

Happy homes establish on the basis of certainty, not on doubts. So man must treat his wife in a righteous manner and not disgrace her. The husband must value wife as to accomplish her rights and behave agreeably.

The Prophet (P.B.U.H) denounced the husband who beats his wife in the day and then approaches her at night.

As in the Hadith, The Prophet (P.B.U.H) said: “Do not strike your wife in the face.”

Almighty Allah has said:

“For if you hate them, it may happen that you hate a thing wherein Allah has placed much good.” (4:19)

The command is for the husband who does not like his wife, so he should consider good qualities of his wife to endow with blessings of Almighty Allah.

Allah said: “Turn not away (from your wife) altogether, so as to leave her hanging. If you come to a friendly understanding and practice self-restraint, then Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Merciful” (4:129).

The husband should not be away for longer than 4 months without her permission or consent. (Fatawa Rahimiyah P.238 V.8)

So husband must not stay away from his wife whether at abroad or home for a prolonged period of time without her consent.

Quran is very comprehensible in this case. As in the Quran,

“Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because Allah has given the one more strength than the other, and because they support them from their means. Therefore the righteous women are devoutly obedient and guard in the husband’s absence what Allah would have them to guard. As to those women on whose part you fear disloyalty and ill-conduct, admonish them (first) , (next), refuse to share their beds, (and last) beat them (lightly); but if they return to obedience, seek not against them means (of annoyance); for Allah is most High and Great (above you all). If you fear a breach between them twain, appoint (two) arbiters, one from his family and the other from hers. If they wish for peace, Allah will cause their reconciliation; for Allah has full knowledge and is acquainted with all things.” (An-Nisa’: 34-35)
